Hawaii Megan's Law
Getting its name from Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was put into federal law in 1995. Megan's Law demands that each state
have a system in place for alerting the general public when a sexual offender is relocated into their area.
Megan was merely seven years old when a prior sexual offender that lived accross the street from her family, abducted,
rapped, and killed her. It was agreed that if her family or other residents in the communtiy had been alerted that a convicted
sexual predator was residing amongst them, this assult would have been prevented. With those thoughts, the U.S. Congress
enacted the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", nicknamed Megan's Law, without any protests.
Ever since the law was enacted, Hawaii has strived to protect its public by providing the most recent information
regarding previous sex offenders and their place of residence. The bill has proven that while sexual offenses are still a
danger in the U.S., offenses committed by past offenders are on a regression.
The information attainable through the enactment of Megan's Law has shown to be a critical advantage in keeping one's family
safe from the dangers of sexual crimes. Staying updated on information that is pertinent to you an your family is a must. hawaiisexoffenders.net is
